Welcome to my
spearfishing page. This is dedicated to spearfishing and freediving in New Zealand.
As you will see, I have included some of my favorite catches, along with some notable catches of my friends.
On occasion I will include photo's and information about interesting going's on in the Kapiti Coast.
The latest boat.
4.7 Meter Surtees Centre console, with a Yamaha 60hp four stroke engine.
Rigged just for spearfishing - not a rod holder to be seen.
One of the better days spearfishing at Kapiti. Four kingfish between 15 and 19kg. Muray and myself.
This years trip was to Vava'u, Tonga to swim with the Humpback whales. Well, they did not disappoint!
I can highly recommend Mounu resort for an amazing island to stay, as well as the best whale boat in Vava'u.
Where I dive
Almost every weekend,
and quite often after work, I will go for a spearfish somewhere around Kapiti Island. This
island is a nature reserve, with access to it by permit only. It also has a substantial
marine reserve, which is doing a great job of restocking the rest of the island. Kapiti is
7km off shore, and as such is only a quick ride out by boat. Due to the varying terrain, I
have certain spots for catching certain species.
I have included a map of these spots, and also a picture of the Kapiti region.
